Adverse Childhood Experience Training (ACE/NAS)

Learn the profound impact on brain development, emotional regulation, and long-term behavioral health

Fully accredited. Globally recognized. Built for the next generation of Addiction & Mental Health Professionals.

What Is The ACE/NAS Training?

The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) and Neonatal Alcohol Syndrome (NAS) Training is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of how early trauma and prenatal alcohol exposure affect development across the lifespan. Participants will explore how the brain forms emotionally and cognitively under the influence of stress, substance exposure, and adverse environments, and how these early disruptions manifest as behavioral and relational challenges in adulthood.

The program emphasizes the clinical and coaching applications of a trauma-informed approach, equipping learners to recognize the long-term impact of ACEs and NAS on mental health, emotional regulation, and social functioning. Through evidence-based instruction, you will gain the skills to identify trauma-related patterns, support affected individuals, and apply strategies that foster resilience and healthier outcomes.

By the end of the training, participants will not only understand the neurobiological and psychological effects of ACEs and NAS, but also be prepared to integrate trauma-informed care principles into treatment, recovery coaching, and community support practices.

Key Topics & Teachings Include:

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE)

  • Toxic stress rewires the brain and body, leaving lifelong trauma marks.

  • 64% of kids face at least one ACE before adulthood.

  • Higher ACE scores directly link to addiction, mental illness, and disease.

Brain Development & Stress Response

  • Fight-or-flight hardwires in kids as young as age two.

  • Neglect and abuse deform brain growth and attachment.

  • Emotional dysregulation shows up later as ADHD, anxiety, or aggression.

Coping Mechanisms vs. Dysfunction

  • “Bad habits” like lateness or absenteeism are survival strategies.

  • The body literally stores trauma—mind and health must be treated together.

  • Adrenal burnout explains rage, fatigue, and extreme independence.

Trauma-Informed Care & Resilience

  • Shift the question: not “what’s wrong with you,” but “what happened to you?”

  • Resilience comes from structure, safe relationships, and identity.

  • The 5 R’s—relationship, routine, reward, rhyme, reading—protect against chaos.

Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS)

  • Babies exposed to opiates show tremors, seizures, and delayed withdrawal.

  • Fentanyl hides in fat cells, making detection tricky and withdrawal severe.

  • Kratom and synthetics are unregulated threats causing infant addiction.

Long-Term & Systemic Challenges

  • Most NAS infants are discharged without follow-up or support.

  • Schools aren’t built for ACE-heavy kids; teachers aren’t therapists.

  • Without systemic reform, counselors become “damage control” instead of healers.
